I’m Ali Cagatay. I live in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where I create the future by writing code.

I’ve loved making things for as long as I can remember, and I created my first program when I was 14 years old—a retro snake game in Scratch. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a software engineer, so I started learning how to code in my free time with a programming language called Processing.

I then went on to study Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, where I gained a strong foundation in software engineering, data structures, algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and mobile & ubiquitous computing. During this time, I worked on exciting projects, such as developing a computer vision algorithm to classify brain scans for tumour detection and building a mobile app that uses machine learning and natural language processing to recommend workouts based on user messages.

Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at Birmingham City University, where I’m expanding my knowledge in key areas such as deep learning, data visualisation, and applied AI. Alongside my studies, I’m applying these skills as a Machine Learning Engineer intern at Kollestee UK Global, where I contribute to the development of innovative AI-driven solutions for automation and robotic systems.

Alongside this, I volunteer as a teaching lead at CodeYourFuture, a non-profit organization where I teach full-stack web development to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including refugees, asylum seekers, and people from low-income families.

I also maintain a blog on Medium, where I regularly write about the tools used in full-stack web and mobile applications in a series called “The Mastery Series”.
